Foreordained Lives

Here's another idea I want to put out there...and it's not like it's my own idea or anything; it's a question that many people in the world struggle with, and the rest consider to be nonsense. What if the life that you're living right now has a foregone conclusion, i.e. has been scripted and you're just reading along, one page at a time? And, if this was the case, does knowing that your life has some predestined path make the journey less interesting and more of an obligation? Or does it make you want to see what happens next (like people who watch a suspense-thriller even though they've been told how it ends...like me (whimpers in pity and disgust))??

Well, it depends on perspective no doubt. I mean, we could argue that decisions such as wanting the second drink of the day to be coffee instead of tea may not be predetermined...the decision to have pasta instead of pizza...or whatever. But that's small stuff...no point frying the small fish, eh? What about key turning points in your life though? I mean, many people have experienced a situation that has seemed almost impossible to surmount or work around, but the decision taken at that time has resulted in the life that they lead today. Isn't that 'life' after all? Some of us look inwards and really on our own strength of character or rock-solid conviction to put our best foot forward and continue with life no matter what happens. Others of us wait for 'signs' and take leaps of faith every now and then. But life still goes on. This is not to argue about which of these is the 'correct' way to lead life, or which is the 'best' method for maximum benefits (method?...wow, for want of a better word, no doubt). It's more a way of finding out how different people cope with, understand, incorporate, and perhaps live by such an idea. This goes a little beyond the whole concept of 'dharma' and 'karma' in Hinduism which ask people to be on their best behaviour and to treat all other living beings with respect to live a wholesome life...in fact, I'd go ahead and say this is not quite on the same tangent.

Looking for alternate perspectives to this...please! Or at least some sort of feedback.
