Royal Tibet Restaurant...or Tibetan Brothers...or Tibetan Kitchen?


For those who've been to Kodai, one of the main attractions is the Tibetan cuisine. Once, there was a little place called the Tibetan Brothers, and people used to frequent the spot, well, frequently. It was a pretty dingy place where if you ever got a sneak peak at the kitchen you may have ended up tossing your salad. However, you could never catch a glimpse inside...fortified kitchens even! Anyway, years went by, and the brothers split. One of them set up the Royal Tibet, or at least that's what I think the name is, and because of its new, clean location, people started going there. I remember that me and Abhi went there for a month non-stop to eat dinner. But, there were those loyal patrons of the first place who continued to go there. Now, five years after my last trip to Kodai, there's a third Tibetan restaurant (Tibetan Kitchen). It's much smaller than the other two, but I didn't get a chance to try the food because it was always packed. Something tells me that the 'brothers' still own it, but then, that would make it a conspiracy of sorts; a monopoly with a competitive front.

The food there? It's awesome!!! Check out this order. The 'chicken chetse' is a chicken noodle soup with flat noodles...my favorite. And the "butter tea" is another favorite. The one thing that is missing here, and I don't quite know why it is, are the 'momos'. Dammit!!! Anyway, here's a slice of life in Kodai. The other interesting this about this order is the fact that Amrita's friend Girija, who's a senior at KIS, grabbed the pad from the old lady's hand and wrote out the order herself. Memories in every little thing. As Girija would say, "What are you trying?"
