Floods in Bangalore...A Wet Weekend Pt. 1

I came across this in my email, and I thought it was a pretty cool collection of photos. Take a look at these people and what they've had to go through. Now, of course this is nothing like New Orleans or the Tsunami last year, but it usually rains a little at this time because of the proximity of this city to Chennai and the North West Monsoon at this time of year. Well, what can I say eh? There's one theory, which I think is rather true, especially on the surface of it, and that has to do with the draining and subsequent construction that has taken place over the natural swamp/marshland. Once many lakes dotted the "Garden City"...now, the water is trying to make its way back, it seems, but we're in the way. Take a look.......

1) Here is one of kids running down one of the crossroads in Indiranagar. Don't know which one, but Indiranagar, or parts of it, are on higher ground. Hmm...

2) And here's one of people fishing right outside their doorstep. In other news, people have been warned to stay away from the sudden 'bounty' of fish that has appeared on the market. Prices may be cheap, but this is a little life and death, eh? Just kidding...about the people being warned, that is.

3) And check out this picture. I mean, what the hell is he wearing? Does he realize he's on camera?!?! Do you think the cameraman, or camera'person', knocked on the door before taking the picture? Damned press bull#$%!!!

4) And what was once my street, well, is still my street, but... Damn man, imagine the people who lived here waking up to this beauty of a scene. Nope, not my lane, thank God.

5) Well, not quite a 'wet' scene...but equally destructive. Mudslide in your back yard? Ouch. Perhaps a case of careless, yet somehow much preferred speedy construction. Good luck with that one. Waiting for the day when the 'sky' will in fact fall on my head. Part II to follow...
