Hammer and Sickle
I thought that this was especially good because of the startled look on the "neta's" face. Also, being a Malayalee, and therefore 'communist' by default, I've come to see the pros and cons of this system, both at home, and in the international arena. In Kerala, it has given rise to 99% literacy, on the one hand, while on the other hand you have tons of 'literate' people who are just willing to sit around and prevent progress/development from taking place...because they feel like doing this. It's pretty crazy, but there are hartals and bandhs like every second day. I got an SMS from a friend of mine, and it goes a little something like this:
"113 hartals and bandhs take place on an average every year in Kerala. The annual production loss because of this is estimated to be 700 crores (USD 160 million approx)."
Elsewhere in the world, we've seen the Soviet Union gain superpower status in the past, and now it is the turn of the Chinese to step up to the plate. The rest is, well, history. This cartoon however, talking about 'extracting maximum', well, it holds a special place in the hearts of all those who've been the victims of this system...those who opposed it and died fighting for what they believed in...those whose dream it was, but who found themselves sidelined when their ideals did not match their leader's...those who toiled their entire lives because they had no other choice...rest in peace.
