A New Look?

Curious as ever, I decided to venture into uncharted territory. Now, the blog looks different. And what a day of discovery it's been. But I'm speaking all jumbled up as usual.

I had seen the little Sign in to Blogger Beta invitation a couple of times in the last month or so, but I never decided to look into it. I guess I was just content to have things the way they were without bothering to fix anything and having to worry about stuff that I couldn't possibly be worried about. But today, well, today I decided to go ahead see what this was all about.

It all began when I decided to take a gander at the help menu to see if there was any information about this beta business. Sure enough, the first item on the list was "Blogger in Beta" and things seemed to be going along just fine. Mind you, this was some time before lunch, when I let curiousity get the better of me...but I do let that happen from time to time because it amuses me, I guess. Besides, the help article on switching to the revamped service made it sound simple enough. So, off to lunch it was.

Back from lunch, and after a brief round of catching up with colleagues, I decided to pick up where I left off. Now, the transfer of going from how things were to how they are now, in beta, takes a while. In fact, you're greeted by a screen that tells you that you will be informed by email when the transfer is complete. So, when I checked my email to confirm that the entire process was complete, I decided to check it out.

Initial reactions were a combination of "Wow" and "WTF?!?!?" because it looked like my blog, but there were things missing. As it turned out, the first thing I noticed was the section titled "Authors" was gone...and in its place was my profile all over again. What? Why would that happen? So, I decided to look into the matter, and I logged in, automatically I may add because I was already logged into to Gmail... that meant clicking on the log in button logged me in automatically. Then, I spent the better part of 10 minutes looking at HTML codes, tags, text, and many other things that don't usually make sense to me before realizing that there may be more afoot here than I had initially considered. Sure enough, there was.

So, there I was, following through with steps that I was being asked to follow, always hoping that it would result in me returning to what my blog looked least with all the elements intact. Nope. Nothing to that effect. I mean, and don't get me wrong, it looks a lot cooler than it did, but I'm going to have to figure out how to get everybody else's names back in the sidebar so that I can give credit where it's due. All in good time, eh?

But, I would encourage people, who have the option and care to make use of it, to go ahead modify/update their blogs to do so. It's cool, and I know it's going to take me a little while to figure it out...but that's what I love doing. So, fear not, I'll work on getting your names back in the sidebar, and I hope I figure out how to get a couple of other things going too.

En fin, what began as an aimless adventure has now turned itself into a quest for improvement. Oh when will it end? Let's hope it never does...
