There's a Weird Al Yankovic song with the same name. In fact, it was the first song that he was able to broadcast on public radio. Long story short, he and a friend recorded the song in the toilet right across from the studio where the Dr. Demento show was airing, using only an accordian and its empty case as a percussion instrument. After they'd finished and submitted their recording to the show, well, the rest is history.
The lyrics of the song are hilarious, and the first time I heard it I couldn't help but picture a scene like the photograph. The photo shows a most common scene in India, so common, in fact, that it is considered to be the status quo. Scenes like this from other places in India often show more extreme forms of travelling by bus, and I hope to capture this on camera too, eventually. On that note, let me leave you with a verse from 'Another one rides the bus' by Weird Al Yankovic:
"There's a suitcase poking me in the ribs
There's an elbow in my ear.
There's a smelly, old bum standing next to me,
He hasn't showered in a year.
It's smelling like a locker room,
There's junk all over the floor.
We're already packed in like sardines,
But we're stopping to pick up more. Yeah."
*I'd like to thank Haresh for first introducing me to this song. Oh, by the way, it's a parody of the Queen song 'Another One Bites The Dust'. So, if you sing the words above to the tune of this, the original song, you can get a feel for it.
