Sunday evening, at Lakdikapul traffic signal, the traffic lights were flashing all together. It seemed a bit odd, because firstly, the traffic that comes towards this signal, so as to be facing it, has a free left turn available to it. Still, it seemed to be a pretty strange occurrence.
It was the other side of the signal - to the right of this picture where you can see the headlights of one of the cars - where the real fun was taking place. The green light, which was shaped like an arrow pointing at the sky but really meaning "go forward", was competing for visibility against a much more flamboyant red. This left the motorists in a state of panic. Many stopped dead in their tracks, behind the white line of course. Not knowing how to deal with such ambiguity, and obviously because it caused them great pain, several drivers exhibited their most contorted faces. With people behind them honking incessantly, and finally trying to overtake them, many of the drivers seemed to be caught in the grips of "obeying the law" and wouldn't budge. They kept this up for at least fifteen seconds before finally giving in to the sheer ill-logic of it all, and moving along. But this trend repeated itself every twenty seconds; more confused people arriving on the scene in droves, leaving even more confusion in their wake. And so on. And so forth.
