I love watching this show, and I absolutely can't get enough of the way Homer Simpson's mind works! Also, I think Dan Castalleneta does a great job as the voice of Homer. In fact, a little further reading has revealed that he also does the voices of Krusty the Clown, Grampa Simpson, Barney Gumble, Mayor Quimby, Groundskeeper Willie! Now that's talent. Come to think of it, I've been watching this show, eagerly and whenever possible, since I was in middle school. Let's just say that that was a long, loooong time ago. This awesome track record is a testament to the endless entertainment that The Simpsons have provided to people across the globe.
What I love most about the this show on the whole is the way in which it deals with "real life issues". It's one thing to make a blatant joke out of them, but it's totally another to deal with it using wit and sarcasm. Well, at least I think so. This sense of humor appeals to me, and it's not too over the top to make me sit up and gasp in horror. There are other shows that do this, and they're still very funny, but I'll get to them in later posts. Overall, The Simpsons as a family, and as an animated TV series that has an eclectic assortment of characters from all over the world, is truly a treat. It was the first show that I can remember that had a typically Indian character: Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. I know I said "typically Indian" but that's only taking into account the Indians-as-711-employees stereotype. For those of you taking offence to this all I have to say is, "Come on!"
The recently made The Simpsons Movie didn't do so well, but it was worth every laugh, I thought. I loved the scenes where the President was forced to make major decisions, among several other hilrious sequences. Oh, and let's not forget "Spider Pig"! Ha ha ha!!!
I hope they keep the show going for as long as I'm around. I sincerely do. They've come this far, haven't they. And, on a final note, I think I would classify the brand of humor used on this show as being at the primary level of ribaldness, to use or invent that term. It can be pretty politcally incorrect at times, but like I said, nothing over the top. Keep up the excellent work you guys!
