Two thousand and nine seems to have started with a bit of anti-climax. No, I wasn't drunk-as-a-skunk because I was "drinking like it was going out of style." And nothing bad happened to me either. So, why the sombre note on the first day of this new year? Well, because some CPM party members were attacked, and one of them succumbed to his injuries. This happened about eight hundred meters to a kilometre from the house, here in Tellicherry, in the evening yesterday. As a result, the CPM declared a 'hartal' today. And to add finishing touches to this brilliant start to 2009, there's a curfew in place for the next five days. How awesomely auspicious is that, eh?
I'm not going to let this get me down, though. No sir! I'm all geared up to see what this year brings in all its magnanimity. If nothing else, it promises to be more interesting than the last couple of years, all of which started off so well, but which seemed to go horribly awry in my head. What went wrong? Well, wouldn't I like to know! Off the top of my head, though, I'd like to say that I lacked vision; the will to achieve something with a longer-term approach. Or maybe, I just let myself lose focus and I seemed to want to accelerate the pace of my life. My professional life. But, not this time around. I've learned a lot in the last couple of years, and its time I started putting it to good use.
Here's welcoming 2009 with open arms, in spite of the flaccid start, so to speak. Here's to a GREAT year this time around! Here's to turning this "whimper" into a "bang"! Watch this space to see how things shape up.
