Remember this. There must be a rise before there can be a fall. I think all through history men have believed themselves to be more powerful than women. Notice I used the word "believed". I think this is just a case of women wanting us -- and I'm referring to the male sex, to which I belong -- to "believe" that this is the way things are. Sure we hear and read about the horrors meted out to women who "have no voice in a male-dominated society" but I think that's just unfortunate, and that it may even be part of the plan.
What plan? To let us know -- doing the same reference thing again -- on Doomsday on less, that we were just part of some long-standing joke. That we never really mattered. And, that because the most useful things we do involve creating conflict and being cruel in general, and because they've pretty much figured out a way to procreate without us, that we're not welcome on the "mother ship" that'll take them to a new galaxy to continue life. This would leave all of us men weeping like it was soon going out of style -- because at the end of the World it would very well soon go out of style -- on a raging inferno of a planet, while the women pointed out their windows and laughed. Leaves me shuddering and in a cold sweat that image.
So, go ahead and laugh at this kind of picture. Laugh because it may well be the last time you do so. Women don't need laws and lame legislation to gain equal footing with men. For door they've been wrapping up around their little finger, and we continue to be oblivious to it. We're too busy glorifying the lion and his mane, and how he lords over his harem. But we forget the black widow and the praying mantis who devour their males without hesitation. In fact, in the case of the lions, it's the females who hold title to the territory, do the hunting and raise the young. The males, they're just around until the next group of marauding counterparts chases them off. Ouch!
One last thought. Wasn't it the great Bono who once said, "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle"? So, remember. There was no rise in the status of man as lord over his companion.
But, there sure as hell will be a fall.
