Here's standing at The base of this statue monument. It stands over 150 feet above me; that's 95 feet of statue, 38 feet of pedestal, and whatever vertical distance there remains till you get down to where I'm standing. Wow!
Having said that though, I have to say that it wasn't particularly interesting. I mean, sure it's very meaningful, but the architecture seems to be a rushed, modern style that indicates that it was built as an obligation and not as a memory honoring Thiruvalluvar's greatness. It's almost as if they were mimicking the Statue of Liberty. In fact, because the ferries went from the Vivekananda Rock Memorial to the Statue before heading back, it was interesting to see many people refusing to get off the ferry because they were absolutely not interested in taking a look. That should have been a look clue, right?
