Here's a photo of me that my uncle took back in 1989. It finds me sitting, rather unhappily too it would seem, on the step that is part of the front door to Sri Vilas. The door is constructed of some solid wood boards that must weigh more than all the inhabitants of the house put together on one side of a weighing scale. As you can see the frame of the door is rather thick, and it looks like whoever built this house was preparing for some kind of heavy cavalry charge or something. Canons even!
The thing to note here, however, is that above the door within -- the door that leads to the puja room where we offer prayers to our deities, or at least we're supposed to -- has a photo hanging above it that isn't there anymore. If I remember correctly, it's a photograph of my maternal grandmother's parents. That's waaaaay old! It's like when the camera was first invented or something. Wow! How cool is that, eh?
