A state-wide strike, or "hartal" was declared yesterday by the opposition UDF (United Democratic Front) to force a further, unbiased investigation into the "Lavalin case", and the part that prime accused, Pinarayi Vijayan, played. This means nothing to me personally, but this is what a "hartal" does to places. Not anywhere near being a bustling metropolis, Thalassery comes to a standstill when such actions are taken by political parties. This was taken at 10 in the morning. Look at the place. It's deserted!
As such, hartals end up being a major loss of livelihood for businesses, and are a pain-in-the-ass for the common man who's always hoping for sensible governance from the people he has elected.
But who am I to say anything...I didn't even vote. :-|
