This is the meal that I've been gorging myself on day and night for the last couple of weeks. It's one of those things that I can't get tired of.
In the bowl, I have a healthy portion of gruel that has been mixed with a little dry coconut chutney. On the plate, I have a couple of pappads -- a chili pappad on the left and a pepper pappad on the right -- and a piece of fried mackerel. I also have some extra dry coconut chutney on the plate, just in case I don't get enough. ;-)
Now, I know I've titled this post "Gruel: Poor man's meal" but with the piece of fish it kind of puts it out of the reach of most people who fall into this bracket in this country. The fish is optional, and just so you know, this meal is still fabulous without it. In fact, it can be easily adapted by including any side dish that you like.
Interestingly, it's time for lunch I notice, as I near the end of this post and glance at the time. Guess what's for lunch. ;-)
