Making "Dry Coconut Chutney" - Step 1


In an attempt to try and provide a visual account of my travails, with reference to making dry coconut chutney, I would like to post the following series of pictures that show -- in a most amateur manner -- the transformation of select raw ingredients into a simple and delectable condiment.

Chutney is a popular condiment that can be made dry or wet. Varieties of chutney, and their names thereof, are based around a central ingredient, examples of which are coconut chutney, tomato chutney and mint chutney. The particular chutney that is being prepared is a dry, coconut chutney.

In this picture, I've laid out the ingredients for this dish, for those who care to recreate this simple yet delectable dish:
2 cups grated coconut,
8-10 small (sambar) onions,
6-8 cloves of garlic, peeled,
3 green chillies,
1/4-inch piece of ginger,
10-15 curry leaves,

A pinch of tamarind,
1 teaspoon rock salt
