That I Was Alone

Been morose that I wasn't shown
The path to a loving, happy home.
Yet, I'm glad that I was alone,
For the unknown did become known

Desolate, sad and aimless plight,
Darkest blindness in plain sight.
Failing courage, faltering might,
Singing of sorrows bathed in light.

It irked me that I had become
To myself, this cumbersome.
A pariah, burdensome.
Flailing wanderlust in the sun.

They told me to toe the line,
To claim it all, like it was mine.
And all would have been just fine,
If I didn't have all this time.

And it never dawned on me,
That with eyes closed, I could see.
This all-encompassing misery
Called simply life, for you and me.

Too afraid to cherish fun.
Relying on the kindness of some.
Finding love among the none.
Killing dreams, one by one.

Many, many troubles to yet atone,
Like beacons of light, brightly shone.
Past and future that I had sown,
With a present to still bemoan.

And the sadness, that I had known,
For from within me it had grown.
A heavy heart of molten stone,
In a home familiar, yet unknown.
